A swing and a miss as the ladies seconds lose 1-0 away to Hampton
By Rosie Paget
It is fair to say that today saw more missed opportunities on goal that sausages in Helen's post match roll ( 4, if you're interested...)
On paper the Twos had a strong side with a solid formation and appetite for greatness. Both teams were evenly matched throughout the first half, with at times end to end opportunities. Katie Seazell's excellent strikes in to the D failed to be converted which should have seen Sils net probably two or maybe three goals. Unfortunately, Sils found themselves one nil down following a goal from open play early in the second half.
Sils definitely had the pace, the skill and determination to win today's game. Sills grit was best demonstrated by Maria O'Malley White who took not one but two bad ball hits throughout the game but continued to play and to have a stormer of a game no less. Sills had a couple of short corners, the first being an unlucky miss by captain Kate Huntington and the second, well lets not mention the hit out...!
Sill's defence was on point for most part of the game with some excellent clearances taking the chances away from Hampton. Sills inability to measure 5m nearly saw a green card and an easy learning opportunity for the next game. Further determination was seen in midfield with Alex Mills stealing possession a number of times to create some great play and movement of the ball.
A lovely new tradition for the Twos to vote for POM at teas saw Lauren Besford crowned best of field.
"We'll have them at home" was the final word..and let it be here too...
