Atherstone's Older Team Too Strong
Lack of GK causes problems
This was not in any way a 9-1 match based on the balance of play.
Sadly though, the Sils were without a GK, plus on average all the home team's youngsters were probably about 18 months younger than the visitors, plus the visitors had 3 adults, and no girls. Hence, based on pure physicality, the Sils were always up against it.
However, the games was played in a great spirit, and the Sils youngsters showed some really nice touches - definitely not being over-awed or upset by the scoreline.
Jacques Banton played a deep role, but carried the ball forwards well, Jake Johnstone looked dangerous at PCs - scoring the Sils only goal from 1 - and the club's talented girls all showed some great touches (Louisa Miles, Annabel Dalby and Gabby Walker as younger players, not being phased by playing against lads around 3 years older than them).
Thanks to Steve Aylin for playing "kicking back" and well done to all the team for sticking at it. Today's result was not brilliant, but the future looks bright - with several of the older players from today looking keen to progress into the adult sides on a regular (if not full-time) basis next season.
