Excellent team display secures the win
1 goal in each half for Sils youngsters
Sils and Rugby agreed to play the first half with an adult each, and then in the second half to play with no adults.
Sils started well, and mounted some good attacks, with Fergus Montgomery and Matthew Hulbert linking well, but unable to score. Rugby then came into the game, and had several attacks of their own, but kept running the ball into Stephen Tabb at the back.
The opening goal came when Lauren Besford tracked back, and one the ball at right-midfield - releasing Ollie Williams down the right, who won a free hit on the half-way line; Matthew Hulbert with excellent quick thinking took the hit and picked out a 40 yard pass to Daniel Bridges in the attacking 23m area, and he calmly slotted home past the visiting goalkeeper.
Rugby continued to have the better of the first half, but with excellent defending from Mackenzie Hill, and Megan Croft, plus two or three outstanding saves by Ben Rice in goal, Sils went into the break 1-0 up.
The second half continued in much the same vein - Rice making a number of important saves, and Rugby having more of the ball, but Sils looking dangerous whenever they attacked - leading to Matthew Hulbert securing the victory with the home team's second.
Thanks to all the parents (as always) for their support! Well done to Nick Rice (and Etienne) for their umpiring.
