Impressive Performance to start the second half of the season

A great way to show how much the team has improved

The second half of the Lions season commenced with a match against Cov & NW - a side that had beaten the young Sils team 10-1 in their first outing this season.

Whilst this game still saw a loss for the home team, it was a completely different affair to that first encounter.

Coventry started stronger, but good defending by Flo Collins and Oliver Harris, coupled with excellent GK'ing once again by Jonnie Carter, meant that the Sils kept a clean sheet in the first 35 minutes. Alongside this solid defensive display, also underpinned by tireless running from Kheya Ballentine-Brain and some dogged work by Erica Adams in the middle of the pitch, the Sils juniors found a number of attacking chances themselves.

Matthew Hulbert unleashed a reverse stick shot which went narrowly wide of the near post, whilst Eva Robinson was a constant pain in the visitor's defence. Sadly, Sils were not able to turn their chances into goals, but with the score at 0-0 at half time, there was everything to play for.

Sils were looking to use the strong running of Ollie Williams and Tomas Maidment in the second half, but as young legs tired, against an opposition who were on average a couple of years older, in fact, the second half became more of a defensive display. Joshua Bowley (now in goal) made some important saves, but was not able to prevent the one goal when a cross found an unmarked player at the far post for Cov to take the lead 10 minutes into the second period.

Lorna Brooks Scott and Ollie Williams in particular, carried on trying to find space down the left as the game went on, but at the critical times, Sils could not quite make the pass that counted, and the game ended in favour of the visitors.

However, the aim at the start of the match was to finish with a better score than the first game of the season, and to that end, this was a resounding success - not only because the team finished 8 goals to the better, but also because the opposition were very positive about the developments that they could see in the whole squad in only a 3 month period.

Great work everyone, let's keep the improvement going!
