U10 Girls through to County Finals

2 wins see Girls through

Sils played in the first group of the County U10 Girls tournament facing Atherstone, Sutton Coldfield and then finally Warwick.

The team set out well against their first opponents, Atherstone, pressing high up the pitch and with Erica Adams and Charlotte Miller showing fine close skills, the team took an early two goal advantage, with Melissa Thurman and Adams scoring the goals.

Atherstone came back into the game, but Rosie Robinson and Flo Collins put in some fine tackles and clearances to allow Sils to keep a clean sheet, with Libby King not required to save any shots in anger, and the victory wrapped up with a few minutes to go thanks to a third goal from the team, and a second from Thurman.

Sutton Coldfield were up next, and following their opening victory against Warwick, Sils knew this would be a sterner test. So it proved, with King making a number of fine saves but unable to keep out a very good Penalty Corner shot from the Sutton captain, and another shot being turned in at the far post. This left Sutton with 2 wins from 2 (which they soon turned into 3 wins from 3 to top the group), and Warwick beating Atherstone to leave a winner takes all final match for Sils.

Sils took the game to Atherstone, and with Serena Arbuthnott and Bethany Tomlinson putting in a great work rate up front, leading the line, and Flo Collins continuing her fine defensive play, the game looked as if it was there for the taking. With great joy, Sils opened the scoring, delighting the coaches with a Penalty Corner routine straight from the training ground > Injection to top - pass to far post - deflection into the goal; 1-0 to Sils. With coach Rich making regular changes, allowing the team to benefit from the fresh legs of Molly Ryan and Poppy Burnett, the victory never looked in doubt, and a second goal shortly before full time, confirmed the result.

The girls now go on to face Rugby & EW in the semi-finals next week - all support would be welcome with the match taking place at 1.10pm.
