The Old Silhillians Hockey Club (Old Sils) consists of 6 Men's teams and 5 Ladies' teams plus a flourishing junior’s section with many different opportunities to train and play in matches against other clubs, and a mid-week Masters team. The club was the first in the UK to be awarded England Hockey's Clubmark accreditation.

With its own astroturf pitch located adjacent to the Clubhouse, Silhillians offers excellent changing & showering facilities, two bars, a large, comfortable lounge overlooking the pitch, and it is home to other sports clubs including rugby and football.

Established for 93 years, Old Sils has a great track record of success with its men’s, women’s and junior teams performing well in leagues and competitions and the club has produced a number of county and international standard players, thanks to our superb coaching staff and a culture that encourages & nurtures sporting excellence. Old Silhillians is a family orientated club with male & female players of all ages; it prides itself on having a fun & inclusive social life, including events such as our popular ‘Silz Festival’ which takes place every August.

New players or returning to Hockey

Old Silhillians Hockey Club welcomes new members of all standards, whether you are an adult wishing to play Hockey for the very first time, you are returning to the sport, or are transferring from another club, we will help you to be the best you can be, get plenty of hockey playing experience and have fun doing it.

Hockey Training at Old Sils

We offer various different weeknight training options with separate sessions for male and females with sessions also grouped by differing abilities, allowing beginners to learn the basics and more experienced players to develop their advanced skills and tactics. Ages range from 13 to 75 years and hockey sticks and shin pads are available to loan for those wanting to try the sport out. Training attendance is relaxed, players can come to as many sessions as they wish, and our coaches make our hockey training rewarding and fun – it’s a great way to build your playing experience and get some exercise!

We also run a ‘back to hockey’ scheme, specifically aiming at women wishing to play hockey, which consists of weekly sessions, with an emphasis on enjoyment and the social side of the sport, with equipment available to use.

Playing for Old Sils' hockey teams

Old Sils has 6 men’s and 5 women's hockey teams which play in local leagues, allowing our members to play hockey competitively no matter what their level of ability, with the opportunity to progress up through the teams as their skills develop. Junior players reaching 13 years old and new members to the club will be invited by our captains to play at an appropriate team level after participating in training sessions where their ability can be assessed.

Our lower league teams are focused on experience & development, and our higher men’s and women’s teams boast a record of success in competitions and league promotions; new players will find that competitiveness, a love of hockey and great team-spirit run throughout the club.
