A great day of hockey on Club Day (Sat 4th September) was capped off with a barbeque on the patio at the clubhouse, where Club President Jason Dalby presented the 2020-21 season awards.
Recognising the work put in by volunteers over 12 difficult covid-affected months, Jason announced the winners of just seven awards, with none of the normal six ‘playing’ awards given out this year.
Heading the list was Murray Creed, winner of the Cutler Award for the person who has contributed most to the club over the course of the year. Murray is Director of Hockey and also Covid Officer and barely a day has gone by over the past year when Murray hasn’t been at the club helping to ensure that hockey could go ahead for all members, organising Saturday senior sessions, helping with Sunday Juniors, managing covid safety, clearing out kit sheds and repairing and replacing equipment.
After a wait of a year, Dan Bridges was finally presented with the England Hockey National Rising Star award for 2020 (sponsored by Vitality). Dan has been helping Sunday junior coaching for the last 4 years, and umpires every week for the club, plus also helps on Sundays with County tournaments and matches. This National Award is well deserved and a huge honour for Dan
The other award winners were:
The Colts Award for the outstanding contribution from a schoolboy – Mackenzie Hill (who is the first schoolboy to retain this trophy for a second year)
The Heather Linley Memorial Trophy for the outstanding contribution from a schoolgirl – Imogen Pemble
Chairman’s Shield for services to the infrastructure of the club - Andre Tchakhotine
The Roger Flood Award for services to running Ladies hockey – Cara Bowley
Captains Cup for long service to the club – John Harrison
