Junior Talent Continues to Excel

Junior Talent Continues to Excel

Stephen Tabb4 Nov 2022 - 20:46

Recent success for our Junior Players in Talent Academy, DiSE and Welsh Performance Selection

The achievements of not only these players, but also all those that have trialled speaks volumes for quite how far our junior development programme have come in recent years
- Stephen Tabb. OSHC Chairman

The Sils impressive junior talent pathway continues to go from strength to strength.

Whilst putting out more Junior teams than any other club in the Midlands other than Beeston HC and thereby providing multiple opportunities for all, the individual development and progression of our most talented junior players also continues to grow momentum.

Talent Academies
In the recent Talent Academy Assessments, Sils had as many players as any other club being assessed at the South Birmingham Centre, and a huge congratulations must go to Alex Townsend and Emily Haywood for being selected for the final 25 training squad - these players will be exposed to a training and development environment unlike anything delivered previously, and we cannot wait to see how they progress, and to continue to do what we can to support both of their development.

Congratulations should also go to the following Sils Players who trialled for Talent Academies but unfortunately either missed out on selection or opted out themselves:
Melissa Thurman, Flo Collins, Izzy White, izzy Shurmer, Tom Bavin, Josh Bowley, Beth Tomlinson, Ollie Cooper, James Wilson, Will Cobb and Sam Christopher.

As a club we should also be immensely proud of the involvement we have had with the development of the following players who have also all either trained or played with the Sils players previously, been coached by Sils Coaches, or are currently playing for our EH Championship teams, and have all been selected for the South Birmingham Talent Academy:
Jeremy Bryant, Jess Cox, Milli Roberston, Izzie Montandon, Leila Scott, Flo Pugh, Trixie Kent, Caitlin George, Will Fretwell, Tarin Williams

In total, that is 12 of the 51 players selected.

Diploma of Sporting Excellence (DisE)

Just as impressive, Josh Bowley has been selected for the National DiSE programme. This is a specific programme delivered for players that attend non-fee paying schools and puts Josh in the top 100 players in the Country from a non-fee paying school. Again, we look forward to seeing his development over the next 12 months.

Welsh Regional Performance Centre

Last, but not least, Eva and Rosie Robinson have recently been invited to attend an intensive Welsh Hockey Regional Performance Camp - this is the stage before National Age Group selection, and we could not be prouder of the two girls (as we know their mother Rhian is) as they pursue their dreams to represent the Dragon.

All of these incredible achievements are testament to the fabulous foundation that our junior programmes offers for our players, as well as the opportunities we continue to strive to provide for every player at the Sils no matter what their ability level. We simply want everyone to be the best versions of themselves, and to provide the right opportunities for playing and developing, no matter what level that is at.
