OSHC Juniors Continue to do us Proud

On Sunday 20th March, three of the Sils Junior teams took part in various Tournaments across the Midlands.

The U12 Girls, having won the Warwickshire Tournament, went onto the Midlands Tournament, playing 15 teams from across the Midlands.

This is the first time they have competed at this level, and they did themselves, and the club, proud, only losing once all afternoon (to eventual runners-up Repton). However, due to the competitive tournament format, Sils ended up being third in their group of 4, so went into the bottom 8 play-offs, rather than the quarter-finals. The girls picked themselves up from this disappointment though, and proved they really should have been in those top 8 teams by dominating their remaining games, winning a further three matches. This meant they finished 9th (out of 16) - but proved also they were probably closer to being at least 5th or 6th best U12 team in the Midlands. Well done all the players, and thanks to the Coaches and Parents for their support.

In the Warwickshire U10 County Tournament, in the morning, the Boys put in some fantastic displays, and were just edged out in the final 1-0 by a strong Rugby & EW side; however, they go on to represent the club in the Midlands tournament on 3rd April.

The Girls then played their tournament in the afternoon, and having won their group stage, faced the eventual winners Rugby & EW in the semi-final. Neither side were able to break the deadlock in normal time, and so the match went to sudden-death extra time; and Rugby were able to make the most meaningful attack of the match, scoring from a long range shot to take their final place.

The girls then played Sutton Coldfield in the 3rd/4th place, which also resulted in a stalemate, but given they had beaten Sutton in the group stages, the girls can claim 3rd place overall.

A fabulous effort from our U10 and U12 teams this year, with the best results the club has ever seen overall, and with the U18 Girls playing in the National Plate Final on the 3rd April as well, this is proving to be a bumper season for the OSHC Juniors.

It should also be noted that Sils provided 7 Young Umpires, and 2 or 3 senior ones for these County tournaments as well - far more than any other club, and a testament to the wider development our members are accessing as both hockey players, and hockey club members/volunteers. Thanks to all who helped.
