Team let lead slip to lose out

The Men's 5ths took to the pitch against Kidderminster 1st team. The fixtures played by the M5 are in the 3Ws Fathoms League and are aimed at providing a competitive environment for players who may not have got a game otherwise. Hence, it was pleasing to give senior debuts to two new players - Shaun Watson and Arran Lawana.

The team were bolstered by 1st teamers Matt Northcott and Tom Bacon who had a blank week, and it was through the first of these that the Sils took the lead, with Matt Northcott surprising the visitor's keeper who probably does not see many reverse stick strikes performed properly, and he was beaten as the shot flew past him. Kidderminster were testing the Sils side who were playing with no goal keeper and they squandered two chances when if they had hit the target they would have scored. However, it was Sils who scored next, Brandon Munemo combining well with Calum Rice down the right to then cross perfectly for Jack Morris to fire home.

Kidderminster brought themselves back into the game with a goal just before half-time.

The second half was equally end to end, with Kidderminster equalising before Tony Dwyer was then on hand to score at the far post after Northcott had passed to Daniel Bridges and much to many fantasy league manager's disappointment, Bridges then passed to the far post for Dwyer to score.

Kidderminster then equalised again, scoring a little too easily as players failed to not close down the player shooting at a PC.

10 minutes to go and the game could have gone either way, but it was Kidderminster who took the win, with a crash ball into the D being deflected home into the empty net by the visiting centre forward. There was just enough time for Sils to have a late flurry of PCs, but the two efforts that Northcott had to equalised were both dealt with (quite fortuitously) by the Kidderminster keeper.

Man of the Match was awarded to Arran Lawana, who having been very nervous in the morning about playing in his first ever adult match, put in a very assured performance at right back.

Next week sees an away fixture against Yardley, with more players hopefully keen to get more match practise.
