Warwick 4th XI 1 (1) -(0) 1 Old Silhillians
Goalscorer: Anand Bharath
Sils travelled with a young side to Warwick who had been relegated from the division above last season so were expecting a tough match. They started well though, with Anand Bharath providing strong running through the middle, and Wesh causing issues for Warwick on the right side.
However, Warwick had some experienced defenders and Sils could not break through their defence, and as the half went on, the home side grew into the ascendancy. The young defence of debutant Oshi, and Zara Berry, worked hard alongside Louisa Tchakhotine to repel a number of attacks, but they could do nothing about the Warwick attack that led to the opening goal, with an overload of attackers versus defenders and Warwick able to score at the far post
A few pointers at half-time from the Chairman, saw the Sils take to the field with extra energy, and vigour. Every player made efforts to work towards the game plan and the guidance provided, and the side really stepped up, and played higher up the pitch and attacked more down the right. It was what the team deserved when Anand swept home from a penalty corner to equalise with 8 minutes to go. Warwick had a few more attacks and there were some nervous moments ,but the team held out and gained a well earned point.
