Sils were always up against it, playing with a bare 11 against a well drilled squad of 18 players who were very much up the for the game having been defeated by the Sils in their previous preparation weekend in 2013.
What took place was an excellent display of hockey, with the Heroes squad simply having more energy and more threat up front. The Sils were hampered a little by not having a single one of their usual defenders available, but the scratch full-back pairing of Andre Tchakhotine and James Clapham did a good job of marshalling the side and offering opportunities to go forward.
However, with the Heroes scoring the first goal of the game slightly fortuitously, a drag-flick deflecting off Salman Whittaker's stick to wrong-foot Chris Wallis in goal, the visiting team never really looked like losing. At half-time it was 3-0, and in fact the Heroes squad scored their 5 goals before Harry Peachey pulled a consolation goal back with 10 minutes to go, following a "clever" dummy drag-flick from Matthew Fell leaving Peachey to slam home.
A good first outing for the club for Luke Owen, and generally some positives to take away, but most importantly, the onlooking crowds (a good 50+ people) will have been impressed by an excellent game of hockey that the Sils more than held their own in.
