M2s continue their impressive away record

After beating Blossomfield 7-1, Sils were going into this match against the league's bottom side Wolverhampton full of confidence and excitement. Looking to secure the win and 3 points, they were well aware of the importance of goal difference in this year's fight for promotion. After a slow start in terms of finding goals in the first 5 games of the season (7 goals), this game was an opportunity to continue catching up with their promotion contenders. There were 6 changes to the side that beat Blossomfield, with 3 players getting a 1st team call up, and 3 unavailable but they were boosted by the return of the solid Sam Howe from injury, as well as the experienced trio of Adam Kent, Josie O'Malley and Gary Perkins. Hours before the match, the team were also finally able to secure their 'multimillion' dollar sponsorship as their long awaited team kit arrived from Hong Kong. Sadly, in the wrong sizes that were ordered, but captain Mo Hadian leading by example in sporting the new baggy look.

Sils started off the match with their 4-4-2 formation and on the attack. There was plenty of early position but the passing was not as quick or sharp as the game last week. Wolverhampton held on for 15 mins before the pressure on them paid off with a couple of short corners and it was Joe Schuppler who opened up the scoring following a surprise deadly strike when the ball was actually misplaced to his right by the injector. 5 minutes later it was time for another of Sils' impressive players so far this season to open his account, as Joe Houlcroft slotted the ball in from close range after good work on the right by Danny Nicoll and Tom Merriman to set him up. Mo Hadian made it 3-0 at half time with another direct strike from the team's 3rd short corner. Sils were reduced to 10 men for 2 minutes following a green card for Josie O'Malley, and the umpires had to warn Sils to reduce dissent at half time.

In search for more goals, Sils switched to 3-4-3 formation at half time which paid off soon when Adam Kent was able to open his scoring account for the season, beating the defender to a Tom Merriman cross from the right and slotting the ball in the back of the net. Nick Oppenheimer and Gary Perkins kept the midfield ticking and continuous attacks from the left by the likes of Matthew Deakin and Luke Kent troubled Wolverhampton. It was Danny Nicoll who added the 5th, making it 2 goals in 2 weeks for the midfielder, before he turned provider combining neatly with Mo Hadian from a short corner for 6-0 -Mo Hadian's 7th goal in as many games. Despite working hard in the game, Josie O'Malley was penalised for a foul and this time the yellow card was shown, and Wolverhampton were able to capitalise on their advantage to get a consolation goal, much to the disappointment of goalkeeper Brindley Jones and the defence who were keen to keep their 3rd clean sheet of the season. Sils were able to add a 7th goals late on, as Tom Merriman broke his goal drought by one of his twisting 360 tricks, finishing off another good attack from close range. More chances came and went for both teams but it remained 7-1, as Sils were able to move up to the 2nd place on 14 points and boosted their goal difference to +12. Sam Howe was awarded man of the match for his performance in defence.
