The 3rd team closed their pre-season campaign with a tough battle against a very strong Shrewsbury side. The scratch Sils team took some time to gel but then took the lead when a well worked move was finished off by Sam-Alex Ekins. Shrewsbury then took advantage of their greater cohesion to dominate the midfield and scored three times to go into half time 3-1 up.
Some tactical words at half time helped push the defence up onto the unmarked Shrewsbury midfield leading to a much tighter second half where both teams scored once each. As I can't recall the scorer the goal goes to Jon Corp. If anyone reads this and remembers who scored, let me know and I'll make the suitable amendment.
Men of the match in my opinion were Bertie Cornforth for a great energetic performance causing Shrewsbury trouble down the right flank and Howard Christopher for a number of excellent saves including one causing some nasty pectoral bruising (pictures available from Craig Ffitch).
