Match Preview

I'll keep it short this week.

We'll feel short changed from our trip to Telford last weekend where despite multiple penalty corners, several well crafted open play chances and a last minute penalty flick claim [not given!] we lost 1-0. Again we performed well, strong defensive qualities and purposeful attacking formation - maybe lacking a second striker in the 3-5-1 experiment [under review] - but couldn't make all the pressure we applied count. Most definitely the better hockey players but not quite the better side according to the result. Well done, MoM Lukas Moment for tireless effort up and down the pitch. Let's move on.

Things to think about:

Letting our centre backs have short passing options as well as heroic long balls to get out of defence from 16s, and maybe doing this a bit quicker before the press is set up by opposition. Sometimes being quicker to take our free hits and 16s gets us going forward before opposition is ready.

Short corners worked, almost. We'll keep winning them and we will start to convert them.

Short passing play when we get it going is difficult for sides to stay with, and when the opposition are turning to defend we are able to get round the back or even though the middle.

In short, varying the angle of attack is important when too often we get trapped into the corners or down a wing. Release the ball early, follow our pass and create overloads on defenders. Or work harder to recycle the ball to the Home position and transfer across the pitch. We can go forward by going backwards too!

Ok, that's it. We all want a win this coming weekend, its overdue and we will get it if we believe and execute these simple tactics.
