"On this day in history ..... Come and support the Mighty 4s in the crunch game of the season"
13th February has proved to be a quite remarkable day as any historian worth his salt would tell you. You only have to take a look back through the years to see why this is the case :
1. 1578 : Tycho Brake created the first sketch of the solar system
2. 1861 : Abraham Lincoln was declared US president
3. 1866 : Jesse James held up his first Bank (for $15,000)
4. 1867 : Johan Strauss' "Blue Danube" waltz premiered in Vienna
5. 1912 : England regained the Ashes
6. 1952 : Rocky Marciano recorded his 39th straight win
7. 1961 : the Soviet Union fired a rocket to Venus
8. 1982 : Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" recorded its 402nd week in the charts
9. 1990 : US, GB & France gave their approval for Germany to reunify, less than a year after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
But what of the twenty-first century I hear you say, what fantastic feats of endeavour on this day can you find in the history books ?
The answer, we hope, lies in the future - maybe this year, this Saturday, when the Mighty 4s take on League Leaders Bromsgrove 4 in what may prove to be the most decisive fixture in the 2015/16 campaign.
The Sils squad will be boosted by the return of several players, including Ffitch & Teal, but again without the much-missed Steve Aylin and Shaun Bates, who hasn't fully recovered from a hamstring problem.
So, if you want to watch some compelling sport this Saturday, and possibly be a part of history, then make sure you're at the Sils for this crunch match, 4pm start.
