JG is HP as the Mighty Fours score four

So, the first win and points of the “season” (theme) as a “mustard” performance from the Mighty Fours got Sils 2019/2020 campaign underway in style.
The first 35 saw the home team “pepper” their opponents with attack after attack, and the pressure told with well-taken goals from the returning Rush, the effervescent Willetts, the debutant Watkin and the ever-maturing Whitfield. That Sutton blew a hole in “Operation Clean Sheet” when the score was 3-0 was both a travesty and an injustice (#VAR?) but it did not detract from an excellent shift from Josh and the back four, who did not concede a single short corner in the game.
Sutton responded bravely after the break, and “thyme after thyme” they tested the Sils defence only to find a dead-end as Will, Ollie, Mick, Dave and Andy closed down the channels with purpose and ease. If they had been able to “pass-ley” the ball better they may have had success, but this would have been unlikely with Josh Bowley once again proving to be an immense last line of defence.
That said, Sils pushed on hard in the second half, using the width provided by Fletcher on the right, and the skipper on the left, and were unlucky not to add more goals especially after a well-worked move involving Tom x 2, Will and Rushy, created a tight chance for Keith, whose turn and shot went narrowly past the wrong side of the post. That he didn’t score was definitely a “Cinnamon” even if he managed to “nutmeg” the SC sweeper.
Many positives to reflect on as we settle into league action. In no particular order of importance :
1. Josh - the lad is yet to start shaving but already shows impressive promise as a GK.
2. Newbies - Will, Young Tom, Ollie and not so Young Rich (#VAR2?) - fitted in seemlessly, with Ollie edging MOM for his versatility and industry.
3. The skipper - congrats on your first win fella. Let’s make sure that it is the first of many.
4. The Rush-Meister - great to see you back in the saddle with a well-taken goal chap.
5. A “mint” goal-line clearance from Will at 4-1 in the second half which ensured SC’s heads stayed down
6. Team spirit and a performance that was anything but “Basil” (well Fawlty, so I claim poetic licence)

Good luck next week fellas, I must away for seven days but will be back for 26 October if selected.
Until then, congrats on our first home win of the season !

Dave
