The Mighty 4s left things all level at Nuneaton.

This week's report courtesy of Andy Rush.

As is the way with the Mighty IVs, this season sees a lot of young players coming in and making their mark within the club. I feel it is appropriate to keep the level of smut and innuendo to an absolute minimum when writing the match reports. It is for this reason that I will be forwarding this report to the captain and, if he comes across anything inappropriate, he’ll whip it out for me.
So, to the game. There was a lot of back-and-forth right from the off with some lovely passing by the Sils midfield to expose Nuneaton’s middle. This twinned with some deft cooperative work at the rear and sharp accurate passing allowed Sils to form several effective counter attacks.
Working well as a unit, the IVs were able to apply consistent pressure to Nuneaton’s area and were unlucky not to seal the deal multiple times within the first half. The deadlock was broken by Nuneaton close to the end of the first half by a good example of individual handiwork by one of their forwards. Sils were caught napping and paid the price. A very rare lapse in what was an extremely strong performance by the back line. Half time – 1-0 Nuneaton.
Sils came out swinging in the second half and were able to work the D expertly, allowing Keith to swing freely and find the back of the Nuneaton net. This score-line had limited staying power as Nuneaton were able to secure a second goal and pulled out in front.
The second half saw Sils securing a fistful of penalty corners with no avail, as Rushy was only able to catch the defender’s rear on a number of occasions.
Thanks to consistent work and pace from the Sils wingers, the Mighty IVs were able to use their full girth to open up the Nuneaton defence. It is from one such attack that Rushy found himself in the D and was able to slip a second one in for Sils.
Level pegging, going into the last quarter of the game, an accurate cross from Tom Whitfield found Ryan Bates at the far post who, in turn, deftly found the back of the net. For reasons as yet unknown, this was disallowed, and the game finished a somewhat disappointing 2-2 draw.
All in all, a strong performance by all and some wonderful linking play all round.
