A close run thing but Blossomfield narrowly defeat the Mighty 4s

Despite Captain Gregory’s absence, under the command of VC Higgins, Sils turned up ready for what proved to be a tough game. Perhaps most surprisingly, VC Higgins also managed to win the coin toss, and Sils’ push back.

Both sides hit the ground running and were eager to put pressure on the other. There were some wonderful defensive skills and saves from young keeper, Jonnie Carter, but the pressure eventually led to a well fought goal from Blossomfield to see Sils fall behind.
Undeterred by this, the IVs launched several good attacks of their own with some sharp, accurate passing, threatened the opponent’s D. One such assault found Keith Willets in the area who deftly slotted home to draw the scoring level.

Much of the game played out like is, end-to-end with the every present promise of once again lighting up the scoresheet. Unfortunately for Sils, this did indeed happen from a Blossomfield short corner towards the end of the first half. 2-1 Bloss.
VC Higgins delivered some stirring words at half time and, perhaps rather foolishly, pulled Rushy’s drawstring and triggered the usual lines regarding communication. Before long, the game was once again afoot.

The third quarter played out much like the rest of the game had in constant pressure and threat both ends. Some well worked passing (see a trend appearing here boys?) found Johhny Dugdale in the Blossomfield area and the space to shoot. This was kept out by virtue of the defender’s foot and the umpire, stood mere feet away….(see what I did there?)…had no choice but to give the penalty flick. Rushy was able to put it away to draw the score back level.

With high workrate often comes the burnout and by the fourth quarter, Sils found themselves flagging and some unlucky defending allowed Bloss to monopolise and seal the game with a reverse stick, highlight reel goal from one of their skilled central midfielders. It was a well fought game and having held one of the top teams in the league to 3-2 is something of which the Mighty IVs should be very proud.
