Match report for 15th February 2020 by Alex Delaney
After a shaky performance last week, the mighty 4ths fought against a young and skilful Stratford 5 in howling winds and numbing rain and hail.
In the first half, Stratford had the 4ths on the back foot, with swarming players around sixteens and preventing the hard hitters of Ian and James from reaching the attacking might of Andy Rush and Ben Blakemore.
HT 0-1 to Stratford
Team talk at half time was simple, not as much hit and hope, more energy and self confidence was needed. At the start of the second half, the weather worsened (if that was possible). Heads were dropped as a junior umpire disallowed a Sils goal (Penalty goal?) But still the Sils fought on. Soon enough, between Keith, Andy R and Ben, 4ths where back in the game with Keith scoring a superb equaliser. From this point on, the play was end to end, with both sides having breaks and chances at goal, but unable to convert. There was some unlucky play with misjudged weight on passes, maybe due to lack of grip.
FT Old Sils 1 Stratford 1
MoM : Some great individual performances, but MoM is Jonnie the goal keeper, for preventing multiple Stratford opportunities and keeping heads high with the prospect of a draw.
