The Sils' Veterans completed their fixtures against strictly Veteran teams (discounting matches against Club XIs) before Christmas, remaining unbeaten for the 2013-14 season, but needed an improved second half performance to do so.
Trailing at half-time through 2 goals by ex-Old Sils player Adrian Stapley, and struggling somewhat with the slippy conditions underfoot, the Sils knew they had to improved their performance for the second 35 minutes.
This is very much what they did, and with Max Levenger skilfully flicking the ball "through" a few defenders to reach Sam Stephen who calmly slotted home, only 2 minutes into the second half, the team dominated proceedings in the second half. Jim Goldstraw in goal was still called upon to make 2 or 3 great saves, one noticeably to prevent Stapley's hat-trick, but this laid the platform for John Rice to score the equaliser with 15 minutes to spare. Both sides played some elegant hockey, and it was Sils who came closest to winning the game with John Scott a whisker away from deflecting home at the far post with only a few minutes remaining.
All in all, a good game, and a fair result.
