Vets beat Bloss

Bloss cross as Sils strike seven
Some lovely alliteration in that title don’t you think? Sils Vets continued their good run of form with an excellent victory over the heathens from across the motorway.
A foggy night looked more suitable for Jack the Ripper rather than hockey, but Sils began well with the ‘two young lads’ (Bloss words) in the middle setting the pace. For info – these two young lads were Andre and Sam which is like describing Hitler as a bit of a bad egg! Sils pinged the ball around like an arcade machine, and goals began to fly in. Despite Bloss having a strong side, the movement, pace and angle of passing was as good as watching the Total Football of the Dutch from the seventies (ah – happy days – Ed). Goals from Sam, Kenty and Dre were good – but the best was a thunderbolt from our Celtic friend Andy Scott who roofed the ball past the somnolent Bloss keeper and ran back to the half way line without a care in the world. After 30 minutes it was 4-0, and the Bloss body language was interesting.
They snatched one back just before half time from a penalty corner, but the four goal lead was re-established on the whistle as Sam struck another.
The second half began with an instant Bloss repost and for 10 minutes it was tricky. Fortunately, the burly figure of Nol, and the shaven Steve Aylin were solid, and Jim kicked well. It was a much more even half, and the final score was 2-2 in the 2nd half making it 7-3 overall – a satisfying result that ensured that the Pope could sleep well in the Vatican tonight.
Goals from Sam (3), Kenty (2) and one a piece for ‘young’ Dre and Braveheart. Kenty even had time to hit the post twice – which he was quite prepared to talk to you about in the Forest afterwards IF you could avoid trying to shoot yourself while he was doing it. The food afterwards was superb, and man of the match was Mark Dovey (voted by readers of Rubber News). The vets are playing some good stuff at the moment, and the matches are live on Channel 898 if people want to watch. Next week – Stratford away. All are welcome – unless you are Bard of course (do you get it???)
