Bloss at a loss as Sils produce 2nd Half Boss

Bloss at a loss as Sils produce 2nd Half Boss

Well my dear old things - what fun was had at the Sils Arena when the Old Boys took on the Bloss Bs - who were a heady mix of youth, experience and pace.
At times, the pace of the game in the first half was frantic. Bloss broke fast, and had some legs up front which made it tricky for the defence. Fortunately, the terrible trio of Chris Thompson, Nol Mortimer and Steve Aylin were on great form. The midfield attempted to work hard (mostly!!!), and Nick Danks was always a threat - both in terms of hockey ability and attempted shoulder barges.
It was Bloss who took the lead after 17 minutes when a crash ball was deflected in. This was also accompanied by some Bloss pressure at Short Corners which saw Nol perform heroics with stick, shin, leg and any other attendant parts of the body to keep out a blunderbuss from Calum Willard.
Half time was a positive one - and there was lots of positive chat about 'we are in this', 'keep playing to our strengths', 'my legs hurt - is it because I'm old' and other such nonsense. The consensus was that we could get something out of the match.
Second half was brilliant. The running and effort from everybody was superb, and the growing crowd saw a display of passing similar to great Dutch side of the 1970s. It was like watching a turbo charged old people's home. We scored an early equaliser as Nick Danks cleverly underhit a shot (he topped it!!! - Ed), and then Bloss were creaking like a floor board in the Bates Motel. It became an open game, and both sides had chances. Sam and Gary never stopped running, and even the venerable Nobby showed flashes of pace. It was Nick Danks who scored the second, and then we held on as the Bloss tide crashed and broke on the defence.
Everyone played their part. It was off to the club house to enjoy after match supper, and endless nonsense was talked about skateboarding, foxes in the park, fitness and being colour blind. The crowd went home happy, and so did the team.
Til next week - anon
