Seventh Heaven for the Vets

Following Autumn's opening defeat away to Stourport normal service was resumed for the Vets with a pretty comprehensive 2 -
7 win over Pershore.

It was a fairly even first half with Nick Danks getting the goal (his third in 2 games) steering a Sam Stephen shot (possibly going wide...) into the back of the goal. In doing so he showed great awareness, movement and reactions and has clearly been learning some moves from Peter Andre on Strictly. Even he looked amazed he hadn't done his back in.

It was looking set for 1-1 at half time until a frantic 3 minutes before the whistle saw Sils bang in 3 more to finish the half 4 - 1. Pershore were perhaps wishing they had concentrated on defending rather than complaining about a perceived back stick in the run up to Adam's goal that put us 2-1 up. Their defence lost their heads somewhat allowing Rich Thurman and Sam Stephen to both score from the top of the D.

From then on it was only going to be Sils' night with most of the match played in the Pershore half and Mark Dovey marshalling proceedings. All bar one of Pershore's breaks were easily mopped up by the defence led by Chris 'The Voice' Thomson and Nol. Sam, Adam and Rich each got a second but somehow managed to avoid their third goal - and the obligatory jug. Although it turned out that there was no planned watering hole after the match and it would have been a jackpot jug rollover anyway.

All in all a good nights work with everyone putting a shift in and showing what a good team the Vets is. The evening was slightly tainted by keeper Steve (remember Steve - pads are for keeping the ball out of the goal, not for trapping the ball against your leg) and Andrew Scott picking up injuries. On the plus side it means Andrew can umpire next week and we might get to see Nobby for a whole game...

Onwards to Warwick away on Monday where hopefully we can win, wash and get fed. We Veterans are simple folks.
