Any win is a good win

Well my dear old things. Another game, another clean sheet and another outing for the old red trousers. It is the highlight of the week to walk into the petrol station on the way home looking like I'm an extra from 'I'm Gonna Git You Sucka', and at times we do all look like Huggy Bear - but it promotes the old team spirit which must be good.
So it was the local rivals Hampton who are always a challenging prospect. The fear element of the Stephen Tabb Arena is such now that only 10 men managed to make it. Arriving in the team bus and seeing the new 40 foot high image of Stephen Tabb holding a pyramid must strike fear into the opponents, and Hampton were grateful when we lent them John Rice on a short-term loan.
Sils started very well. The ball was passed around nicely and Mark Dovey was in excellent form, controlling the midfield. Nick Danks and Right Said Fred were always looking dangerous, creating space and generally over-reacting to any tackle or attempt to rob them of the ball. At the back, the rotund Mortimer and the increasingly unkempt John Scott (I'm glad he has been mentioned , he's my favourite (Stevie Wonder) dealt with the Hampton attacks well. It was no surprise when Simon Stephen smashed the ball home after 12 minutes, beating the youthful keeper via a deflection.
Sils rotated their players, and Nick Oppenheimer entered the fray to great cheers from the large crowd of Tracey Perkins and a pigeon. Sils continued to dominate and Jim Goldstraw in goal was about as busy as Nick Dank's hairdresser. However, it remained only 1-0 as half time arrived.
By now Hampton were down to 10 again due to injury. John Rice swapped back, and John Scott (He's quite good don't you think? - Ray Charles) joined the ranks of Hampton. This was to provide the moment of the game in the 2nd half when he tackled Right Said Fred and ended up sitting on him.
The 2nd half was a more even contest as Sils lost a bit of shape (a bit??? - Ed), and Hampton had several chances. Neil Mortimer and Chris Thompson were effective, and Jim Goldstraw made some good saves. Sils went 2-0 up when Right Said Fred smashed home a strike after a lovely move. As the game reached it's denouement, Mortimer put in some crunching tackles to secure his MoM status and selection in the next game.
In the 2-0 seemed to be slightly disappointing considering that the opposition were not as strong as normal. On the flip-side, another clean sheet is good, and the red trousers were out in force. It was also nice to meet Nick Oppenheimer again as he had been LB for part of the game and thus I hadn't seen him much (just leave it - Ed). A few beers, pie and accidental chips were enjoyed before we all trundled home for treatment, therapy and medals. The good news is - we all do it again soon.
