So near but so far.

It was close - but not close enough. Stourport are like a really annoying rash that you get. You deal with it, think you have beaten it - and then they return to ruin your day and send you back to Boots grumbling. It was a strong Sils XI that assembled at the Stadio de Stephen Tabb, and we hoped that the absence of Stours grim reaper David Knott would help us. Alas - they gave us hope and then snatched it away at the end with all the relish of the Grim Reaper.
It was fast and it was furious from the first minute. Nick Danks is a menace up front because for someone who runs like a pixey, he can put it about. Fifty Shades also caused problems, and Sils were pressing the Stourport goal. However, Stour scored from open play (Dam them - Ed), and it felt like 'same old'. However, we are made of sterner stuff these days. Christ at the back is a rock, and new recruit Paul Williams is a welcome addition. It is like when Kylie joined Neighbours. Nobby (the Sweat Best) Oppenheimer is also back playing well, and we equalised before the break. A thrilling moment that was like being in Mission Control the day Neil and Buzz landed on the Moon. 1-1 at half time was deserved.
We knew Stour would come at us like George Best entering a bar - and so it proved. The defence played really well, and Jim Goldstraw (Strawbs???) made some great saves. Steve Aylin (We are S'aylin) had a brief mental schism, but then bounced back well. Paul Williams scored a spectacular second goal and with 10 minutes to go, we felt like it could be our night.
However - Stour are like the Gestapo - 'Give them hope and then take it away'. Firstly they scored from a deflected short corner, and then the crowning turd in the water pipe was when they scored a third goal with 2 minutes to go from a PC. The howls of anguish could be heard in Meriden. They was time for a green card for the miscreant Gandalf, and then the final whistle went. CURSES!!!!
Too be fair - it was an excellent game. However, we still search for our first win. Tips for evening - Right Said Fred needs to pass. We are S'aylin needs more therapy. We miss Sam Stephen. Beer is too expensive and more red trousers are needed for the post-match drinkies.
We have a fixture at home against Blakey and Warwick on 12 October. It would be great to have more fans down.
MoM was Jim Goldstraw.
