Sils Let it go at the end of Frozen encounter

So we were back to it - a new year and new optimism. The team had some new kit, and also some new players (Keith Leeson is back). However it was same old Stourport who are the sort of team who will watch you drowning - and then throw you rocks and bricks to help you on your way. They seem to come from the planet Mongo.
It was a chilly venue and to be honest enthusiasm for playing was mixed. This is always the case with old folk but against the Stormtroopers from Stourport it was marked. We had the bare 11 (that must have been cold- Ed), and we started on a surface that looked dodgy. Initially we played it around nicely. Everyone was like a teenager on their first date, and we looked quite good with the old passing.
As it was the first game back after the frivolity of Christmas, it was actually quite nice to play. We score through the evergreen Danks, they scored one back. We banged another in courtesy of Si Russell, and then they scored again. We seemed to be competing. However lurking like the Angel of Death on the touchline was the figure of David Knott for the oppo. This would become relevant in the 2nd Half. In the meantime, we played some lovely stuff. Two more goals went in and it was 4-2 at half time. Pleasing but freezing was the talk at half time. Could we hold on?
In a word - no. Despite a great shift from the back 3 of John Scott, Christ and Andrew Scott, Stourport put on their crampons and attacked with much more aggression. They were ruthless in their short corners, and scored a penalty flick that was brutal in its pace. We continued to attack well though - and we scored a total of 5 goals thanks to Danks (2), Russell (2) and the redoubtable Right Said Fred with 1. In the end it was Old Sils 5 - 7 The Imperial Death Star of Stourport. There was some disappointment but also some pride in the quality of our play. They are a good side. and also entertained us well with Sausage, Chips and Beer - what more could you want.
Next week, Cap'n Gary Perkins is looking for us to attack and defeat Worcester. With a home venue, warmer weather and subs - anything could happen. MoM was Si Russell (player with the Mighty Vets and Terrific 3s). Here's to many more over the second half of the season. Have a nice day.
