Well that was fun!!!

Olton batter the old boys
Well the Summer is here. The Vets are wheeled out of storage, greased up and let loose for a few weeks. For some - this involves a course of monkey glands to keep them going.
The Real Madrid of local hockey arrived and I am surprised they didn't need a bus the amount of them there were. It was going to be a tough night, and Cap'n Perkins clearly had damage limitation in his head during his speech. As we creaked and stretched, the oppo were doing shuttles, warm-ups and half of them their SATs. They looked youthful.
The game commenced with an early onslaught from the visitors (incidentally a lot of them had very impressive hair that did not move when they ran - curious), and they had several shots in the first few minutes. The pugnacious defence led by Tony Jamieson was resolute, and the forward line of Danks, Thurman and Gray began their 70 minute session of 'when will I see the ball'? Olton are impressive - but lack a certain humour at times. Its a bit like playing the Stepford Wives. They score after 10 minutes from an impressive back-stick chop, and then doubled their lead on 20. Sils were then penalised when the youthful, hirsute forward ran into the stationary and completely innocent Jim Goldstraw and fell over. It was rather tame, but the Olton umpire Graham Reynolds showed no sympathy and awarded a flick that was despatched.
3-0 at half time. Perkins was positive, Stephen was sweaty, newcomer Paul was limping having been nailed by a Jamieson exocet. Could Sils keep it decent in the 2nd half was the chat?
The 2nd half was similar to the 1st, as the Sils played some good stuff, but were also outrun by the legs and probable superior fitness of the Olton players. There were one or two sniffs at goal, and Mark 'I should be at Worcester' Dovey was impressive. However, the regular Olton goals arrived, and we struggled at times as we were as overloaded as a mini carrying an elephant at times. Some notable performances were achieved (sorry - that should read 'not able' - Ed), and in the end 7-0 was a fair reflection.
We retired to the bar, and a fine display of Hawaiian shirts were in evidence, The voting for MoM was interesting, as Dover cleaned up with 114 votes (thanks to the members of WHC for their telephone votes). Food was enjoyed, nonsense was chatted, and the benefits of running around on a wet May night getting well and truly r*****d by the locals were discussed. We then looked forward to pleasure of playing Bloss next week.
