Enjoyable stalemate for the Old Boys

Welcome back to the Vets winter fixture. There was a good turnout of the brethren on Monday at the home of the formidable Hampton Vets. We knew it would be a tight game - and so it proved. Hampton had their A list out, and the battle in the midfield was great to see. The returning McGuirk, Cap'n Gary and Si Russell were competing well with the 'Grim Reaper' that is Greg Wade. Hampton shaded the first 15 minutes, and went ahead courtesy of a Wade thunderbolt. However, we were not downhearted. The forward line lead by the svelte Thurman was excellent, and following great work by Nobby, DJ Mo, and Fifty Shades, it was Thurman who slammed home one of his 'specials'.
This made half-time an enjoyable one. However, I was reminded of Admiral Yamamoto after Pearl Harbor who stated 'I fear all we have done is awaken a sleeping giant'. How would Hampton react?
They came at us hard in the second half, but the old boys reacted well, and if anything shaded the 2nd half. The quality of the passing was good, and Thurman struck home again after 55 minutes to give us the lead. Hampton as a formidable as the Roman legions however, and one of their umpteen attacks saw a top quality finish into the top of the Sils net.
We hung on though. In the end 2-2 was a fair result for an excellent game. As retired to the Hampton bar, their was lots of positive chat, and the MoM was deservedly given to Mr Richard Thurman. Unbeaten in 2 games now - and with more to come. It was a pleasure boys - well played,
