Captain Kat leads the way

Captain Kat leads the way as Sils are held to a draw on their travels to Sutton Coldfield. The game started well with an evenly balanced amount of possession although neither goal was under any great threat with the game being fought out in the middle of the pitch with both sides guilty of wayward passes leading to a number of turnovers.
Midway through the half good play up the left hand side by Terri Mason and Ally Taft allowed Taft to drill the ball into the D to Kat Berns who evaded her defender with some deft stick work before burying the ball in the bottom corner of the goal giving the Sutton keeper no chance. Shortly afterwards a golden opportunity arose when Samantha Cooper intercepted a cross field pass and found herself one on one with keeper but unfortunately pushed her shot wide. Sutton seemed to come more onto the game after this chance was missed although never really threatening the Sils defence which was well marshalled by Becky Bakewell and backed up by goalkeeper Joanne Brett. The tireless Emily Green continued to cover the majority of the pitch in support of her midfield and forward line although the chances created were not converted leading to far more anxious moments than were needed and Sils should have been out of sight by half time.
The second half started with Sils managing to lose possession within the first three seconds of play much to coach Jamie Fleet’s dismay. Various substitutions were rolled on and off in the second half to freshen up the attack to no avail as the game continued to be fought out in the middle of the pitch with few clear cut chances being made by either side. Sils didn’t help themselves with attacks breaking down with the final ball often being misplaced. Sutton continued to battle and eventually equalised through a short corner following a defensive misunderstanding.
Not the greatest game of Hockey to be seen but another point gained, chances created, and good experience gained by the youngsters coming through from the seconds.
