Drama at the Heath as Sils leave it late

Sils hosted the University of Warwick in the latest divisional match of the Warwick Division 1 season hoping to build on the progress of recent weeks. With the instructions of coach ringing in their ears the game strts and within seconds Sils managed to lose the ball so onto Plan B., Quickly recovering Sils took the game to Warwick having the majority of the game although not really managing to find the final pass to threaten the Warwick keeper. With pressure mounting on the Warwick goal there was always a threat from a lack of concentration allowing the opponents quick forwards a chance and sure enough towards the end of the first half they seized on the ball and split the defence with an accurate pass at the top of the D allowing two forwards an inroad to goal where they were able to pass the ball around for a tap in with the defence struggling to get back. Sils were stunned by this reversal and seemed to loose there way with passes going astray and a lack of urgency when getting back. The half ended without any further goal threats at either end.

After a quick refresh of the game plan Sils took to the field with new enthusiasm. The game followed the same pattern as the first with Sils making all the advancements but falling short in the final third against a resolute defence desperate to hang onto their lead. Subs were rolled on and off to freshen up the failing attack in an attempt to generate more pace and cause Warwick a few problems and ten minutes into the second half a melee on the Warwick goal line resulted in Tamara Majevadia forcing the ball home for her second goal of the season and a much deserved equaliser. Sils were in the ascendency now causing Warwick problems on each attack and during one of these forays th midfield general Ruth Dovey took a blow to the head leaving a egg sized lump. But instead of rolling around like a premiership footballer true hockey player Ruth simply carried on regardless. Attacks were mounted defences held firm at each end and this was much the pattern of the play with each side making inroads only to fall short at the final pass or shot. With four and a half minutes remaining drama hit the game with an innocuous challenge in the Sils D resulting in a forward being upended and the opposing umpire awarding a penalty flick which was duly dispatched. Staring defeat in the face this galvanised Sils into action and playing some of the best hockey of th game they took the fight to Warwick with waves of attacks one of which left a loose ball just on the edge of the D, Ally Taft was the quickest to react and taking two paces further towards goal the ball was smashed into the roof of the net o equalise yet again. From the restart Sils turned the ball over advanced onto the goal and gained a short corner however, the drama wan't finished as the injection flew through the stop allowing Warwick to advance at speed on to the Sils goal where they gained a short corner. The final whistle blew, the crowd gathered, the builders stopped work to watch as the tension mounted but not to worry as the ball was rundown by Dovey who smashed the ball out of play for a hard earned point

MOM: Ruth Dovey after another midfield performance, carrying on with a lump the size of an egg after an encounter with the ball and still leading the players on right to the end.

DOD: Well Miss Jones was back so bit of a given really. After having to go back having forgotten her stick she proudly shows off her gleaming white teeth all now straight after having her braces off so gum shield George.................
