No way back after hesitant start

Sils travelled to North Leamington to take on Leamington 2’s in the first of the weekend’s double header with a strong team hoping to capitalise on the recent impressive displays. However, for some unknown reason Leamington started the better and were made to look impressive as Sils stuttered along with passes going adrift and players not being closed down quickly Becky Bakewell was by now working overtime trying to establish some kind of order within the back line and slowly Sils started to sort themselves out. The game was developing in to a pretty even affair with Leamington knocking the ball around at the back before trying to release their quick wingers onto the offensive with Sils counter the problems as they arose..

Leamington were having the best of the half and were forcing errors at the back resulting in an unnecessary level of pressure. Sils were guilty of hesitancy all around the pitch and a lack of momentum with the ball not being moved around sufficiently fast enough to cause any direct problems for the opposing team. With 10 minutes of the half to go a Leamington forward was suddenly found to be unmarked in the D and was the quickest to react as she swivelled on the ball to lift over the advancing Joanne Brett. Within 5 minutes this was followed up by another goal from a short corner as the initial thereat was nullified Sils were slow to re-act allowing a shot to be got away which glanced in off the post. The half time whistle blew with Sils bewildered as to how they were suddenly 2:0 down.

The second half started with more purpose with Sils taking the game to Leamington through their fast paced and eager forwards constantly being fed by the hard working midfield and within 5 minutes of the restart Jai Resche latched on to a slipped pass and forced it past the keeper for her debut goal. Sils started to look as though they could resurrect something from the game as forays down either side by the Georgina’s Dalby and Jones were starting to cause the defence problems although the final ball was never quite turned into a goal.

Midway through the half Ruth Dovey advance down the right beating several players along the way before slipping the ball through to Dalby who couldn’t quite capitalise on the chance as the shot went wide. Sils never gave up and kept creating chances and with 5 minutes to go a shot took a huge deflection into the goal off a defenders stick, whilst all thought it was a goal the umpires conferred and disallowed it due to the change in own goal rulings. Sils never recovered from this setback and whilst they kept pressing a goal still couldn’t be created from the chances that went begging.
The second half was a distinct improvement on the first and as long as the tem take confidence from what can be achieved success can only be just around the corner.

MOM: Georgina Dalby once again her tigerish attitude, great link up play and never say die attitude.

DOD: Not awarded as pretty much half the squad would have qualified for varying misdemeanours.
