Goal of the season seals Sils win

Following the bruising encounter Sils were out to provide Blossomfields with another defeat in the return and from the off they were attacking in force and playing some of the best hockey they’ve managed all season. Blossomfields were left to try and catch shadows as the forwards and midfield players were darting around creating magical triangles with quick passing and inter-changes that left their opponents bewildered. Chances were being created and shots were honing in and within six minutes the ball found its way to the reliable stick of Frankie who thundered it in to take a deserved lead. Sils were well on top now but that crucial second goal just wouldn’t materialise despite the hard running that was being applied stretching the Bloss defence all around the pitch. With substitutions rolling on and off the pitch to freshen up the play Sils were still on the offensive but Bloss were starting to carve out a few chances of their own and were coming back into the game. By half time they had managed to score twice through a mishit shot and another that somehow came through a clutch of players unsighting the defensive team.

Not to be down heartened a frank discussion was held at half time and the team came out rejuvenated with fresh legs applied the attacks started to swing Sils way with the upper hand being held. Ruth and Tammy were once again becoming dominant in the middle and the strong direct runs they were making were carving holes through the Bloss ranks causing panic every time they hit the D with Fleur now holding a wider position on the right hand side ably supported by Annabel the left hand side of the Bloss defence was being exposed. As Fleur took off on another electrifying run interchanging passes on the way she reached the backline and skilfully directed the ball past the static keeper for a long awaited equaliser.

Sils continued to carve out chances and created a number of short corners although for once the injections weren’t up to the usual standard and any threat from this direction wasn’t going to happen today. As the game entered the latter stages of the game the hockey descended into a stale affair with both sides seemingly to cancel each other out but with minutes remaining on the clock Tammy collected the ball just inside the Sils half and with speed dribbled through the last of the Bloss players leaving them in her wake and advanced on goal, just inside the D she unleashed a perfectly timed shot on the run which shot into the roof of the net as she turned to receive the applauds from all around her the Bloss goalie was still trying to work out what had occurred. It was one of those moments that I’m sure will be talked about for a long time and one that is a were you there when Tammy roofed it type of comment. Needless to say Sils were now on fire and enthusiasm and attitude was suddenly lifted yes Bloss did try and come back and short corners were conceded most nerve rackingly with on as the whistle blew and all of Bloss camped around the D but the defensive unit held strong and the ball was cleared out of the D although stressful for all those that were watching but at least another three points to the tally and more games won so far this season than for a long while so progress is good.

MoM: Just had to be Tammy for that stunning goal and pulsating runs throughout the game.

DoD: Especially awarded by Coach Jess to Tammy for dropping hockey next week to go and see some egg chasers in London, really……..
