Ladies 2nd XI maintained their unbeaten record this week with an impressive 6-0 win over 3rd placed team Nuneaton Ladies 3rd XI.
As this is only the fourth league game of the current campaign, and to replace our injured Claire Robinson and Kate Huntington (in theory!), there were some changes to the team sheet. The twos gladly welcomed Lucy James, Hannah Higley and Amy Brennand to the starting line-up.
Sils set a strong defensive line with Louisa Tchakhotine providing vocal leadership from the back and Maria O’Malley not missing a tackle or clearance all game. Helen Price (cheapest goal keeper in the fantasy league) had a very quiet game with no touches in active play and maintaining her second clean sheet of the season.
Midfield battled hard to overcome the elements (Storm Brian!) and provide that central stability, tactically making the ball work hard and utilising the width of the pitch where real opportunities and chances for Rosie Paget, Alex Mills, Molly Sullivan and Amy Garside to stretch their legs were created. Lucy James made a real difference in central midfield creating a lot of time on the ball and delivering some accurate passes and shots on goal.
Forwards included Katie Seazell, Amy Brennand and a short showing from Kate Huntington, who collectively had opportunities to take the score into double figures. Short corners were a plenty but the lack of conversion will no doubt be a focus at training and an area where real scoring opportunities can come later in the season.
Nuneaton Ladies 3rd XI continued to battle throughout the match and Sils hard work ethic and determination sealed the win and importantly a clean sheet in defence.
Once the final whistle had blown focus turned not to the next game but to the social… a team that wins together socialises together.. cheers to that.
