The temperature was a very cool 1 degree, and the pitch was a little frosty on the top, but everyone was keen to get the game played and not have to play on a Sunday in future weeks.

Sils started strongly, with the direct running of both Eva Robinson and Emma Berry causing real problems for the opposition. Unfortunately, whilst they got into the D several times in the opening exchanges, there were never quite enough bodies in the circle to make the most of the territorial pressure.

However, as happened through much of the game, the first goal came from a hurried KL clearance, keen to get the ball away from the dangerous home forwards, but not wide enough to bypass the second wave of Sils players. With 12 minutes gone, a clearance fell to Amy Garside, who accelerated towards the goal, and as the opposition backed off to mark the higher forwards, Amy took one step into the circle and fired a low shot into the far bottom corner - everything that we have talked about with shots was displayed - shot taking early, fired at the far post, and an excellent way to open the scoring.

However, within minutes KL were level. With Caroline May's 10 year old trainers causing her to fall over more times than anyone else on the pitch combined, a doubt was creeping into the normally very assured home defence about quite how sure their footing was. With a slightly sloppy pass played across the back, the quick KL forward was able to latch onto the loose ball and find a colleague in the D who gave Jessica Thandi in goal no chance with an early shot of her own.

The game continued in much the same way, with Sils dominating territory, but always looking slightly nervy at the back and open to being exposed by fast breaks from the visiting team.

Thankfully, before half-time Sils had managed to score twice more, with the pass and direct running of Melissa Thurman and Izzy White causing the damage. The first of the two Sils goals before half-time came from Lucy Windeatt being in the right place to slam home a cross-shot from Melissa Thurman from close range, and then White went on a mazy dribble, only to be stick tackled as she was in the process of shooting - a Penalty Stroke awarded, which Izzy despatched herself with a calm flick into the left side netting.

KL also scored before half-time though, with another quick break catching the Sils defence napping, and this time, the Penalty Stroke was awarded to the away team - slightly less clear cut, but a stroke nonetheless, with the KL forward being impeded as she entered the D. The young KL forward placed the ball calmly in the bottom right corner.

The second half followed much of the same fashion as the first. The Sils dominated territory but KL always looking dangerous on the break. Sils did regain their two goal lead when a right to left run by Izzy White ended with her smashing a reverse stick cross to the far post where Emma Berry was on had to deflect home and score her third goal in the last two games.

KL were not done though and with ten minutes to go equalised with a smart finish at the far post and then moments later Jessica Thandi needed to be alert to make an initial save, but was stranded as the ball fell to a spare forward, but thankfully her shot narrowly missed the near post.

There were few further scares, and in fact Sils could have scored a couple more if they had been able to get the slightest of deflections at the far post on a couple of occasions, or if they had been able to score past the impressive KL keeper.

The win sets them up nicely for a crucial clash with Solihull Blossomfield in a few weeks in the battle for second place.
