4 games this afternoon that ended with 3 defeats (to Rugby, Edgbaston and Coventry) but a draw (against Warwick) that could easily have been a victory.
There were many signs of encouragement for the future - the work rate in particular was strong throughout each of the 4x15 minute games, and Jonnie Carter pulled off some very good saves in all of the matches, earning him MOM (or should I say BOA?).
Defensively, Sils had a number of high points, including some superb tackling and shot blocking from James, Harry B and Matthew, with Dominic the architect of several attacking moves down the flanks from "16s". A high number of penalty corners were conceded as Sils battled to keep the opposition (in particular Rubgy and Edgbaston) at bay, but the defence ensured that none led to a goal. Well done guys !
In midfield, Teghan, a tenacious Harry C and menacing Jacob, were really effective at breaking down some of their opponents attacks, and tried to force the ball forwards to Big Ben and Little Ben when they could, but it was a day when we found it difficult to get the ball into our opponents D and create chances.
Lots of positives to take forwards despite the overall results - we will develop quickly if we remember :
1/ to work on our positional play in defence - marking players when we don't have the ball
2/ using the width of the pitch and supporting the player on the ball when we we have the ball
Well done everyone - see you @ training. Matthew and Jacob, I hope that the knocks that you took are ok quickly.
