Following a last minute call up to the Midlands Finals at Beeston, the under 12 girls were raring to go in this annual regional tournament. The team played 5 fixtures and achieved the following results:
Sils 0 Beeston 4
Newark 0 Sils 1
Sils 1 Rugby 2
Wem 2 Sils 3
Sils 0 Leicester 0
Following the outcome of these results there was an anxious wait to find out whether Sils had done enough to progress on to the semi finals. It was soon announced that both Sils and Rugby had finished with exactly the same points and the same goal difference. Due to Rugby beating us in the game earlier in the day, they would retain the 3rd position in the league and Sils would get 4th. We then also found out that, had we beaten Leicester in the final game, we would have progressed through in 2nd place.
Undeterred by this, Sils were drawn against Belper in the play off for 7th place. A tense game ensued where both teams created their chances, however the might of the Sils girls shone through and their determination saw them win 1-0, securing their highest result in Midlands hockey to date.
Well done girls on a fantastic team effort (and thanks to all those who went in goal - particularly Hanaan Welch who was outstanding in the final game and managed to deflect wide a number of chances in earlier games!)
The team was:- Hanaan Welch, Daisy Roberts, Charlotte Harmer, Kiera Johnstone, Millie Harper, Lauren Hobday, Louisa Miles and Lily Evans
