A really encouraging morning for the boys, who played with increasing confidence and purpose as the tournament progressed.
Tough first game saw us fall behind following two pieces of trickery from Stratford’s William Fretwell.
Second game was a much more even contest, with Sils unlucky to have a goal ruled out for an infringement just outside the D.
The pool finished with a demolition of a young Olton side. Goals from Teghan (double hat trick? I lost count), Matthew Bowley, the two Ollies and Ruben saw us rack up a glut of goals, but what was more encouraging was the quality of team play and passing.
That saw us finish second in our group behind Stratford and so qualify for the Cup section.
A hard-fought game against Warwick saw us edged out despite us having the majority of chances. This lead to a 3rd place play-off against Hampton, in which we again had the majority of possession and chances but were unable to put the ball over the line. And so to shuttles, with a Hampton edging us out 2-1.
Much to be positive about, including :
GK - Harry - should be very pleased with his performance, important saves in every game, including a great block in the shuttles.
Defence - Jimmy, James, Dominic - great work throughout the morning, whether tackling, harrying or distributing out from 16s.
Midfield - Ollie, Ollie, Ruben - excellent work in the engine room - lots of running, purposeful passing when we attacked, and hard running to track back and cover defensive duties when needed.
Forwards - Teghan, Matthew - dangerous up front, really effective interplay to create and convert chances, particularly against Olton.
Well done guys. See you at training next week !
