Old Sils Under 14s took part in a competitive mini festival today at Bablake in Coventry. The first match saw them take on Sikh Union in a competitive match. After some great defending early on by Georgia Byrne and Abby Richards, Sikh Union finally got a goal midway through the match. Old Sils came back into the game well, with Alex Delaney making a great cross for Ollie Williams to equalise. James Coppin and Katie Quantrill did some excellent dribbling and passing during the game, and at one stage it looked like Sils might get a winner, but Sikh Union got a late winner to finish the match 2-1 winners.
Sils then took on a strong Bromsgrove team, and despite some good play by Abby Richards and Lizzie Gaton, and some good keeping by Jonnie Carter, Sils were overcome 5-0. Whilst Bromsgrove deserved their victory, it didn't reflect the good play by Sils which on any other day would have seen them score a goal or two. Some great play again by Ollie Williams and Alex Delaney in attacking midfield.
The final game saw Sils play their best hockey against Warwick. Despite going 2-0 down, which didn't reflect some good play by Ollie Harris in midfield (where some great dribbling saw him take the ball over half the length of the pitch) or Jayden Bell in defence. Sils kept battling, and were rewarded towards the end by Jayden Bell, who kept battling and scored his first goal for the club. Unfortunately time ran out for the Sils - another 2 minutes and, they would undoubtedly have equalised.
Despite losing the 3 games they played, their heads didn't drop and the team played some great hockey throughout and represented the club well.
