Sils win 9-0

The Old Sils began their first Midlands campaign in over 40 years by hosting Chesterfield.

From the intensity of the start it was clear that the Sils were excited to be returning to the higher level and they soon had complete control of the game retaining possession well. The Sils pressed hard up front and won a succession of short corners, one of which was finally turned home by captain James Clapham to give the Sils a well deserved lead. This lead was soon doubled, when veteran Max Levenger was at hand on the back post following Jamie Glynn’s cross come shot meaning the Sils took a 2-0 lead in at the break.

The second half could not have started any better when man of the match Jon Hollway put his reverse stick shot past the keeper inside the first 30 seconds of the half. Hollway turned provider for the next goal when his shot was deflected in by Andre Tchackotine. This Sils continued to apply the pressure and after a couple of sighters, last season’s top scorer Jamie Glynn got onto the sheet with a reverse stick shot into the far corner. This was soon followed up when both Clapham and Levenger got their second goals apiece. And there was still time before the end for Glynn to get his second and player-coach Dan Sulway to fire a drag flick into the top corner of the goals, giving the Sils a resounding 9-0 win on the opening day of the season and shooting them straight to the top of the table.
