Sils v Stourport

The Sils hosted Stourport on Saturday, one of the early pace setters within the league, and they went into the fixture knowing it was going to be tough match.

The game started on a very even footing, with both sides controlling the ball well but struggling to find any gaps in either defence. It wasn’t until a well worked move allowed Tom Banton to drive into the opposition ‘D’ and he was about to shoot on goal until he was fouled in the act, a penalty stroke was given and Jamie Glynn duly stepped up and put the ball into the net. The Sils took heart from this and were growing in the ascendency until some dubious umpiring decisions allowed Stourport to score two quick goals before the half time break.

Not to be deterred the Sils continued to control the game in the second half with several efforts going just wide. But it was the visitors who got the next goal, with a well worked short corner routine. The Sils didn’t let their heads drop and soon had pulled one back, Jamie Glynn getting his second from a short corner. But once again Stourport worked the ball well and got another two quick goals from errors in the Sils defence. With ten minutes left the Sils pushed on and Matt Fell slammed the ball into the roof of the net with an unstoppable shot after some good work down the wing by Andre Tchakhotine. And two minutes later the deficit was down to one when Jamie Glynn completed his hat trick, once again from a short corner. The Sils kept pressing and looked likely to get the winner but thanks to some disruptive defending and tackling from Stourport which was allowed to go unpunished by the umpires they were unable to get the equalising goal leaving the score line at an underserving 4-5 loss.
