Sils return to winning ways

The Old Sils travelled to Old Hales on Saturday looking to return to winning ways. The Sils knew that a win on the weekend would shoot them up the table and went with a large squad all prepared to put the hard work in, and this showed in the first half that whilst the hockey was a bit fractious at times the Sils desire to win could never be called into question. And it was the Sils who took the lead, after a spell of good possession which led to a short corner Jamie Glynn powered the ball home. The Sils soon doubled their lead, once again off a short corner, but this time it was player coach Dan Sulway who flicked the ball home leaving the score 2-0 at half time.

The second half saw Old Hales take control of the game and if it hadn’t been for a man of the match performance from youngster Dylan Longdon in goal, with several unbelievable saves being pulled off the Sils could well have been trailing. But the next team to score were the Sils, and despite being down to ten players at the time Sulway found Glynn who rounded the keeper and slotted in from an acute angle. The Sils continued to defend hard for the remainder of the game but London’s clean sheet wasn’t to be, as Old Hales scored a consolation short corner of their own just before the end of the game, Sils still left with all three points and a 3-1 victory.
