Last gasp winner

The Sils resumed their league campaign with the arduous journey to Chesterfield.

Looking to start the second half of the season with a win the Sils soon took control of the game and dominated possession from the first minute, with Chesterfield seemingly content to leave 10 men behind the ball and defend. Unfortunately after five weeks off the Sils lacked the cutting edge in the final third of the pitch and couldn’t break down the dogged and often physical defence from the home team. They went into the break somehow finding themselves a goal down after some dubious decisions.

The Sils came out the blocks fast in the second half, and with a switch in formation player coach Dan Sulway started pulling the strings from the middle of the pitch and the Sils were soon rewarded. Top scorer Jamie Glynn with some fancy skills in the D won a short corner, which he himself flicked into the bottom corner to level the scores. The sils continued to press forward for the winner but were occasionally in danger from the counter attack, Tom Harrisson at the heart of the defence snuffing out most of the attacks alongside man of the match Jamie Clapham. With time running out the Sils held their patience and their nerve and with mere seconds left to go, Jon Hollway beat four players single handedly before lobbing the Chesterfield keeper to give the Sils a much deserved win.

The Sils host second in the table Burton at home next week.
