Sils opened their league season in style with a well-deserved draw at Worcester. Both members of the crowd enjoyed a solid performance from the Sils who were clearly determined to apply the lessons learned from a tough pre-season. Despite falling behind midway through the first half, Sils were always in the game, with Harrison unlucky not to equalise when slipped the ball by Willetts after 15 minutes.
The second half saw several chances for both sides, but the Sils defence consistently closed Worcester down and some simple but highly effective passing helped to create several exciting counter-attacks that put Worcester on the back foot. As the game entered the final quarter, Sils changed formation to 3-4-3 as they chased an equaliser. And with less than 5 minutes to go Sils finally drew level thanks to some great interplay that involved most of the team. Matt Lyons sent the ball through to Willetts, who exchanged passes with Dwyer at the top of the D before Dwyer slipped the ball to an unmarked Higgins who hit a first-time shot into the far corner.
Whilst the result was nothing more than Sils deserved, what was more important was the work rate and commitment from the team throughout the 70 minutes. And with Benteke (sorry Rush) due back next week, a similar performance should see Sils prove more than a handful for Kings Heath.
