Match Report is a snippet from the whippet

By Tony Dwyer

The Mighty Fours plus two (Ffitch & Dwyer as the Fives were cancelled again) gathered in the cold and rain for this latest league clash, this time versus high-flying Warwick 5’s, who arrived standing 2nd in the table. Andy Jackman made a welcome return at left back, following a back strain.
Captain Higgins organised a decent warm-up run plus stretches, and Sils returned to our promotion season habit of “starting fast”! So much so that following the initial skirmishes, Tom Whitfield impressively crashed home the opener, and Sils took a deserved early lead. Scenting blood, Sils roared forward, but our momentum was quite quickly stolen by a rather soft equaliser, which seemed very much against the run of play.
But very pleasingly, heads didn’t drop, and Sils maintained their superiority, forcing a short corner from which, our very own Harry Kane (Andy Rush -who else!) scored yet another goal, putting the Mighty F’s ahead once again.
But again, unfortunately we still couldn’t hold the lead. Warwick pulled level at 2-2, and really our own defensive lapses were keeping them in it.
The second half saw Warwick take the lead for the first time, and followed up quickly with another, suddenly creating daylight between the two teams. And despite another H Kane special, the game ended an extremely frustrating 3-5 loss.
Yet at no stage in this game were Warwick superior to us, or perhaps only in one respect - they didn’t give away any “soft” goals, whereas probably two of those we conceded fell into that category. Certainly Yogi vented his frustration at several points in the match, and nobody could blame him. What we all need to take from this game though, is that we were for large parts of it the better team, especially in the first half. Keep that up, and cut out the freebies to our opponents, and we can yet climb the table.
