Max power leaves Bloss feeling Gray

Well my dear old things.
The nights are drawing in; the leaves are falling; Strictly and the X Factor is back. That can only mean one thing - its Vets Hockey again. I know you have all missed the updates.
The first good news is that all the Vets have survived the summer intact. It is a bit like the morning after the Battle of Rorke's Drift in 1879 - is anyone missing? No - we were all there. Captain Perkins had assembled a scratch team, and there was a new axis in the midfield of Tchaikovsky and Tog. This was the engine room. The evergreen John Harrison made a welcome appearance, and John Scott was back from chatting up the cast of 'Smack the Pony'. There was also the relaxed and cheerful figure of Levenger in the team (!!!!!!!-Ed).
We started well. Smooth passing, good calling from the team and we looked relaxed on the ball. Bloss can sometimes be 'combatative' so it was nice to play 15 minutes without being attacked in much the same way that Annie Chapman et al were back in 1888. The defence was solid, and Jim Goldatraw in goal was amusing himself by calling Simon Russell constantly and seeing how obedient he is. Lets just say that I reckon Simon would win 'Best in Show' at Crufts.
Sils went close on three or four occasions. Bloss had the considerable figure of Andy Snelling in goal, and he takes some beating. Several shots went close but it took an Exocet from a short-corner from the balding Levenger to put Sils one up. He promptly phoned his wife to seek affirmation, and Sils attacked again. Thurman looked good, Gandalf was tricky and Gray stalked the D like Ted Bundy.
Half time - 1-0. A good-natured team-talk and more of the same was the plea. Bloss began the second half stronger and they put the defence under more pressure. Chris Thompson was impressive and helped to frustrate Bloss. Tandoori ran well in the midfield, and Tog is a solid as they come. However, Bloss equalised with a scrappy goal, and it felt somewhat unjust. This galvanised the team. We went after Bloss like Hurricane Irma, and it was after a sustained period of pressure, Gray slipped the ball in with the precision of a surgeon removing a kidney. A great goal. Perkins was leading the midfield, and despite one or two half chances for Bloss that was it. A good win and a game well umpired by both Andrew Scott and Phil Shoreson from Bloss.
Then it was back for cold showers and bread at Bloss. MoM was voted as Chuckapony which was deserved. Next week promises to be a stiffer challenge as the Visigoths from Stourport are due at the Sils. Quick - send for a priest.
