No answer to Rugby’s organisation and clinical finishing as Sils get a wakeup call

Following last weeks victory Sils travelled to Rugby and East Warwickshire without a number of their more seasoned campaigners due to other commitments. Rugby are a well organised side and full of goals at the best of times but with a side lacking experienced defenders this was to be a daunting experience for the youngsters, compounded by centre back Kate Huntington’s long standing injury re-emerging after a minute of the start. With Huntington off the pitch Sils re-shuffled in attempt to stop the onslaught but with Ali Leeke the only recognised defender on the pitch this was always going to be a hard afternoon. With makeshift defenders getting caught out of position and Leeke being dragged all across the D to plug the gaps it was left to goalkeeper Joanne Brett to thwart the attacks that got through and without her expertise and amazing saves it could have been far worse. By half time Sils were 5:0 down and shortly into the second half Rugby were awarded a flick to compound the problem even more which was duly dispatched.

The continual Rugby attacks didn’t reduce and as Sils tired two more goals were added to take the total to 8:0. There was the sporadic attack from Sils who did venture into the D a few times but nothing to trouble the Rugby keeper.

The youngsters battled hard and kept running until the end but it was a good experience to come against a team of this calibre and it can only enhance their game play. On to next week for the first home game of the season.

MoM: To show the magnitude of the performance the award deservedly goes to goalkeeper Joanne Brett who kept the score down with an amazing display and superb saves throughout. This is on top of helping the L2’s to their first win in over a season earlier in the day.

DoD: The one and only Naomi Ennis for comments and actions too numerous to mention and basically just for being Naomi.
