With 7 of the usual starting line up missing through injury or non-availability this was going to be a hard game at the best of times but the depth of the squad was drawn upon and Sils started strongly taking the game to the visitors. However, it soon became apparent that Warwick had a strong right hand side and as Sils attacks faltered Warwick broke quickly and with players out of position the defence was required to swing across the pitch to cover. Warwick then pushed their left midfield quickly up to supplement their attacks and Sils were caught open as the covering players struggled react quickly enough. The majority of their goals came from this ploy through unmarked deflections or tap ins at the far post if this wasn’t bad enough panic in the defence at times caused wayward clearances to be intercepted by Warwick bringing the attack straight back onto the defence. The first goal conceded came after ten minutes and by half time Sils were 0:4 down with hopes of a comeback looking extremely slim, even the arrival of Georgina Dalby straight from a netball game failed to turn the tide.
Sils did improve slightly in the second half although a further two goals were conceded taking the total tally to a 6:0 reversal.
Hopefully lessons were learnt and that this is one of those games to forget with more positive hope for the rest of the season.
