Short corner routines to the fore as Sils wrap up the points

Following a few weeks battling against the league leaders it was back to action against teams a little bit lower in the league with this week entertaining Long Buckby from the far reaches of no one really knows where. Having won in the initial fixture the team were up for further goals and points from the off with the opposition pegged back into their 25 trying to staunch the avalanche of attacks that were being mounted by the Sils strike force. Within 4 minutes Sils had won a short corner and the pinpoint injection found its way to Frankie Levey who unleashed a perfect rocket into the bottom corner of the net leaving the defence stranded. Sils continued their attacks with Tammy, Libby and Lauren using their speed to give the defenders a torrid time with shots hurtling past the far post waiting for a tap in. Sils were on the ascendency with Bucky having nothing to answer the forward play that they were being submitted to with anything they tried to create being snubbed out by the eager midfield with Georgie Dalby in particular seemingly everywhere tackling back supporting the forwards and making herself available when needed and on the opposite side of the field Fleur was working equally hard as chances were being created at every opportunity.
As the pressure mounted a further short corner was awarded with Tammy deciding to mix up the play with an injection from the other side which wrong footed the defence and found Amy Stainton free to smash home.
2:0 and cruising but there was always the inkling that the chances not taken to kill the game off may haunt them later and with a few minutes to half time Jess took a ball to the head and had to go off requiring a re-structure with Tammy dropping back to cover with the score remaining into half time.
As the second half started and Jess starting to resemble a unicorn Buckby started to come back into the game having taken the game to Sils in an effort to claw something back. The Sils defence having nothing much to do were suddenly being overrun at times causing a number of smothers to be executed by Jo in goal as the back line was breached together with some last ditch defending by Claire and Kate keeping the score line intact. But the pressure was starting to tell and Buckby eventually pulled a goal back as the defence was overrun. Buckby were buoyed by the goal and threatened for a while until Sils managed to gather themselves together and peg the hole that had appeared with Jess going off. The midfield battle ensued and good runs were being made by both Tammy and Ruth but at least they were now curbing their adventurous streaks ensuring at least one of them was anchoring the midfield with defensive duties as the other charged off on another mazy run. Sils slowly took control again and a further short corner was converted by Ruth for a deserving goal taking much of the pressure off but there were still jobs to be done as Buckby had nothing to lose and kept trying to come forward but the rotation of the substitutes although dwindling in numbers due to various injuries kept the front line fresh and pegged the opponents back.
The game was seen out with no further scoring for a deserved win for Sils which could have been far easier but seemingly an enjoyable game for all.
MoM: Georgie Dalby for another impressive performance covering huge acres of the pitch in tackling support and making herself available whenever the opportunity arose.
