Star striker hits the ground running as new look Sils shine

This was always going to be a tough game friendly or not. Up against one of the leagues expected challengers Sils fielded a new look younger side with a number of debutants who all played well. There was a refreshing hope of expectation which was well justified with a new look support team, new club captain, and new teenage captains who drove the team on with energy and by example.

Although Leamington settled first Sils matched them from the off and whilst there were mistakes made the team rallied around everyone and pressed hard where they could. Vice Captain Tamara Majevadia was making explosive runs down the right with the Leamington defence hard pressed to match her pace ably supported by Lauren Hobday making her debut for the first team.

Leamington scored first but were soon pegged back from a strike by star striker Amy Stainton whilst the game ebbed and flowed Leamington were more clinical seizing on a couple of mistakes and taking a 1:3 lead into the half time.

The second half was pretty much all Sils with probing attacks coming down either flank with the young strike force holding their own causing problems with their never ending pace. Majevadia was once again causing problems and slotted home after some fine solo work. Georgia Smith and Molly Sullivan were now finding space and chances were being created whilst in defence Kate Huntington and Jess Jecketts were marshalling the defence and with Ruth Dovey battling away in midfield the play was pretty much pushed back onto Leamington throughout the second half. Whilst an equalising goal didn't quite materialise this was by far a much better performance than could have been hoped for and also better than some witnessed last season. Still with a number of players to return it is hoped that this can be used as a springboard to greater things.

MoM: Tamara Majevadia who led throughout, scored a superb goal and caused Leamington problems all day.
